Three Gallaudet University women’s Track and Field records were broken along with one American record on March 24, 2012 at the Dr. Harry GM Jopson Invite at Bridgewater, VA.

Leslye Kang broke her own Gallaudet (GU) record in the Javelin Throw with a distance of 39.37 meters (129′ 2″), beating her previous record of 37.81m (124′ 0″). Her throw also set a Deaf American Record, besting Nicole O’Bryan’s old record of 37.88m (124”8″) in June 23, 2000 during the USA Trials in Washington, D.C.

Mariah Ransom, who participated in the 2009 Summer Deaflympics in Taipei, Chinese Taipei, set GU records in both 100m Hurdles and 400m Hurdles in the same day.

In the 100m Hurdles, the old GU record was 16.34 (16.1 hand-timed) by Wanda Esquibel in 1984. Ransom ran a 15.43, nearly besting the record by one full second. In the 400m Hurdles, Ransom ran a 1:07.27, shattering the previous record held by Patricia Duncan in 1980 who ran 1:12.24 (1:12.1 hand-timed).
