Dear USADTF members and friends:
Please accept our apologies for not sending out any e-newsletter for a while. Things have been pretty busy for all of us - Thomas being a new father; Tiffany and her promotion with DEAFLYMPICS; and Wayne with his relocation to MD due to new job opportunity.
In this e-newsletter, there are several exciting news about our Deaflympians and their improved marks during the spring season, Ruth Seeger’s 300+ medals she won at Senior Citizen track/field Olympics, upcoming 4th Youth PanAM Games for the Deaf in 2006, election year for USADTF officers, Class of 2004 USADTF Hall of Fame, and DEAFLYMPICS will soon debut their own Junior World Records category.
Also, USADTF is seeking results from middle schools and high schools for the Deaf, and mainstreamed schools for spring 2005. We want to recognize all athletes’ accomplishment. NFSD/DeafSportZine is no longer collecting this information. USADTF is going to be responsible for this task.
Please send all results to:

Patrick Southern Breaks 4.90m (16’ ¾”) in Pole Vault
Patrick, 2005 Deaflympic Gold medalist, shattered the World Record in Pole Vault on April 3, 2005 when his school, Nebraska University, competed at Emporia State
University Relays.
See the
link for results.
Due to failure meeting strict record breaking performance requirement, his mark was not recognized by the DEAFLYMPICS. However, his record is good for Deaf
American Record.
Pat stated in his e mail that he is confident that he will go beyond 5.00m mark, 16’ 5” next year.
It is important that you follow the instructions on the Record Application Form in the website.

CSD Campus Community -
Last weekend, our very own Ashley Griffith, participated in the NCS Meet of Champions at Edwards Stadium at the Univ. of California in Berkeley Friday and
Saturday. Friday afternoon, she competed in the 100m hurdles trials finishing with a time of 16.86. Her time didn’t qualify herself for the finals on Saturday. However she still had two more events in compete in on Saturday.
On Saturday, Ashley competed in both the long jump and the high jump. She started the day with the long jump with a best jump of 16' 7.5" good for 9th place among the 24 girls who competed. The high jump being her best event, she was sensational as she came in 2nd place clearing 5' 5" which is her new personal best and school record. Her jump qualifies her for the CIF State Track Championships this weekend in Sacramento at Hughes Stadium.
She is scheduled to take part in the High Jump qualifying rounds on Friday at 6:30pm. The top nine jumpers will advance to the Finals on Saturday at 5:30pm.
A feature story on Ashley Griffith is scheduled for this Friday in the Argus newspapers. Be sure to check that out!
GOOD LUCK ASHLEY! We are behind you all the way!

Left: picture of her celebrating was captured
after she cleared 5' 5" for the first time ever.
Right: picture shows her clearing the jump! I can't say if that was the one when she cleared 5' 5" at this time.

Thomas Withrow was lucky to bump into Ruth in Texas on June 25th and had a chance to talk with her. She said she had a few weeks of training prior to the competition as she is tending to his husband, Julius. She said she does not know if she will continue next year, but, she will do it if she can! We are sure she will and can do it again. When asked about all those 300+ medals, she stated
that she is donating all medals to elementary and middle school programs at Texas School for the Deaf.
Hope to see her hit 400 medals soon!
