Highlights of 3rd Youth PANAMDES Games at Montreal, Canada
A total of 25 individuals, including 13 boys and 12 girls, between ages of 10 and 15 years, represented USA Track & Field. They were from four different state schools, with sixteen from Maryland School for the Deaf, five from Indiana School for the Deaf, two from New Mexico School for the Deaf, and two from Texas School for the Deaf.
The above athletes were selected on the basis of :
Family Track & Field Games held at Maryland School for the Deaf and Indiana School for the Deaf;
recommendations of the previous Youth PANAMDES (YP) head coach;
head coach's internal contacts with several schools in order to fill in the available slots for the purpose of completing relay teams.
The USA track team won 46 out of a possible 81 medals (57%) for the 27 individual events in three different age groups for each gender (10-11, 12-13, & 14-15). Of the 46 medals, they included 22 gold, 13 silver, and 11 bronze. The team also won two gold and two silver for relays. The total number of medals the USA track team brought home was 50, including 24 gold, 15 silver, and 11 bronze.
Nine YP records were broken, two YP records were set (due to first-time events), and one YP record was tied by the USA track team members.
